    I recently tried the "Directions to portal" feature on the Outgress intel map, but didn't find it very useful. It draws a route on the map, but I was expecting it to launch GMaps (or even Apple Maps or Waze?) for turn-by-turn directions. My suggestion: When the user taps on the nav buttons for a portal, ask them which app they'd like to use, then kick them into that app for navigation. Example URLs that will do this effectively on iOS:

    Driving directions:
    Google Maps: comgooglemaps://?daddr=33.602935,-117.691146&directionsmode=driving
    Apple Maps: http://maps.apple.com/?daddr=33.602935,-117.691146&dirflg=d
    Waze: http://waze.to/?navigate=yes&ll=33.602935,-117.691146

    Walking directions:
    Google Maps: comgooglemaps://?daddr=33.602935,-117.691146&directionsmode=walking
    Apple Maps: http://maps.apple.com/?daddr=33.602935,-117.691146&dirflg=w

    Desktop behavior would be slightly different of course. (no Waze, different GMaps URL)

    Note that Waze is not intended for navigation on foot, so if practical, I would exclude it from the options when the user taps the "walking" icon.

    Sounds like a good idea. Probably would just make it a per-user setting so it sends them to whatever they normally prefer rather than give them a zillion options every time they want to navigate.

    I ended up not making it a per user setting that way people without Outgress accounts can use it. But it should work now with the following applications:
    • Outgress (same as before)
    • Google Maps
    • Apple Maps
    • Waze (for driving directions, but not walking directions)

    Also reworked the portal profile pages a little bit, so you can use the navigation options direct from there as well without needing to go to Outgress Intel map first.
