How Does This Work?

You create a free account and set a Gmail filter to forward your Ingress email damage reports.

The damage reports are processed in realtime into the Outgress analytics and alerting engine.

That's the short version.

Is This Allowed?

We believe so, but you decide.

But My Secret Data!

No one on the opposing faction cares who on their team is attacking you. Do you care who on your team is attacking opposing portals?

Priorities on attack alerts

Discussion in 'Support' started by PupNibbler, Jun 7, 2016.

  1. What do they do? I've only been using this for a day. I set up a couple group alerts to GroupMe but nothing happened when someone attacked. I had it set to Medium. Do I have to do high or highest for it to alert the chat?

The priority for a portal group doesn't affect how fast an alert gets to you (it's an informational item that comes with the alert for certain destinations). For GroupMe, it does absolutely nothing because GroupMe's API is pretty rudimentary and doesn't support a lot of things that the other destinations do (like attachments, colors, anchor text on links, etc.)

That being said... it doesn't explain why you would not have gotten your GroupMe alert.

I skimmed the internals of the database, and it looks like you have 3 portal groups setup with a GroupMe destination, 1 of which has no portals assigned to it, so we'll ignore that one. So I show 2 portal groups that appear to be properly setup with portals and a GroupMe alert destination.

What is the portal that was attacked that you feel should have triggered your portal group alert? If you can give me that I should be able to go digging further.

  3. These last two on my alerts (obelisk and freedom place), should be in my DTR group.

Thanks for your quick response! This is exciting!

Outgress hasn't seen a damage report for those 2 portals since May 29. I'm guessing you might be seeing the difference between how Ingress does in-game alerts/push notifications vs. email damage reports (they are triggered by different things).

In-game alerts/push notifications are triggered by the portal taking damage (basically a resonator being hit).

Email damage reports are triggered by a part of the portal being destroyed (resonator, mod or link).

There are advantages/disadvantages to both ways. For example email damage reports (what Outgress is based on) won't let you know if something was splashed unless a resonator was destroyed or a mod was popped off). On the flip side, if someone is carefully ultra striking your mods off without hitting any resonators you will never get an in-game alert about those mods being attacked/destroyed... because a mod can't take damage (it can only be destroyed... see criteria for in-game alert above), but Outgress would be able to alert you to someone doing that before it's too late (when all mods are off and they go after resonators).

If you look at those portals in-game, are they still alive? As in nothing was actually destroyed (mods or resonators)?

  5. Only took damage - nothing was destroyed. Your explanation makes sense - thanks!
